Homemade Granola
Granola is so simple to make at home and allows you to customize it to your liking! This granola is perfect with yogurt, on top of smoothie bowls, or alone as a snack!
What do you need to make Homemade Granola?
Oats. Make sure you use old fashioned oats, not quick or instant oats.
Nuts. I use almonds, cashews and pecans. You can use any nuts of your choice.
Dried Coconut. If you don’t like coconut, feel free to leave this ingredient out, but I love the flavor and crunch it adds.
Melted Coconut Oil. Adding a bit of oil helps the granola get toasted and crispy.
Maple Syrup. Use a bit of liquid sweetener (maple syrup, agave, honey) to sweeten the granola and help it stick together. If you want the granola to be sweeter, you can also add some brown sugar.
Vanilla Extract. Vanilla adds another layer of flavor and sweetness to the granola.
Cacao Powder. This is optional but I love the slight chocolate flavor it adds.
Cinnamon. I love cinnamon but you can leave it out if you aren’t a fan. You can also add nutmeg.
Salt. A small amount of salt will enhance the overall flavor of the granola and balance the sweetness.
Optional add-ins. You can add dried fruit for extra sweetness and a chewy texture. You can also add some nut butter to make this more of a sticky granola.
How to make this Homemade Granola:
Preheat oven. While the oven is preheating, add the oats, nuts and dried coconut flakes to a large bowl and combine.
In a separate bowl, add melted coconut oil, maple syrup, vanilla, cacao powder, cinnamon and salt. Combine. I don’t like my granola very sweet, but if you want a sweeter granola add more maple syrup or other liquid sweetener to your liking!
Pour the wet ingredients over the oat and nut mixture and stir until combined.
Spread the granola evenly onto a lined baking sheet and bake until slightly crispy, stirring halfway through. Once cooled, transfer to an airtight container to up to 10 days. Scroll down for the full recipe for this homemade granola!
